Breaking News: Somaliland Signs Landmark Deal with Maharat Investment to Modernize Hargeisa Egal International Airport

In a historic move aimed at transforming Somaliland’s aviation sector, the Government of Somaliland has officially signed an agreement with Maharat Investment Company, a Dubai-based investment firm, to modernize and expand Hargeisa Egal International Airport.

According to reliable sources close to the matter, the agreement was finalized today at the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC), with Somaliland’s Minister of Aviation and the CEO of Maharat Investment Company putting pen to paper. The signing ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Somaliland’s Representative in the UAE, and a team of legal advisors.

The multi-phase project is set to be completed within three years and includes the following major components:
• Construction of a brand-new international passenger terminal.
• Possibility of building a new runway or the rehabilitation and extension of the current runway.
• Full modernization of airport services, including luggage handling systems, car parking facilities, plane taxiing areas, and advanced passenger services.

The development will be carried out in three phases:
1. Conceptual Design
2. Engineering Design
3. Construction

Once completed, Egal International Airport will meet the standards of a modern international hub, designed to serve as a gateway for trade, tourism, and business in Somaliland and the Horn of Africa.

Government insiders revealed that within the first five years, the project is expected to double passenger capacity, increase revenue streams, and significantly improve the quality of services offered at the airport.

This deal marks one of the largest foreign investment projects in Somaliland’s aviation history and is anticipated to boost confidence in Somaliland as a safe and stable destination for international investors.
