Alshabab have assassinated former Governor of Hiiraan region of Somalia Abdirahman Ibrahim Maow who was once a member of the Islamic court Union. Police confirmed two men armed with pistols killed him in Wadajir district of Mogadishu last night.
Initial reports say the attack took place as he left a mosque. Alshabab immediately claimed responsibility for his assassination.
Federal government and regional officials condoled the public and his family and asked them to be united against the Alshabab group that has claimed the lives of many government officials and civilians in the last decade.
