Somalia’s Beledweyne security forces have confirmed the death of two men who were alledgedly behind the assassination of a regional police officer last night in Beledweyne. According to security officials, the two suspects are believed to be members of Al Shabab group.
Police said the suspects were shot dead following a planned security operation against them before they attempted to escape from their hideout. Alshabab has not yet responded to this claim or even confirmed these suspects as the group members.
Alshabab has conducted similar attacks against government officials in Beledweyne and the government forces take similar actions and attacks. Alshabab’s main hideouts are in southern and central Somalia.
Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their lives as the result of the fighting between the two sides since last decade. It is not yet clear when the government will eventually eliminate the group from the country or whether Alshabab will take over the horn of Africa state.
