Foreign lawyers to represent Somalia in ICJ on Kenya maritime disputes

The lawyers defending the maritime case in Somalia on 9th August are well recognized international lawyers from the United States, the United Kingdom and France.

Paul Reichler: An international lawyer based in Washington, D.C., from Harvard Law School, J.D., cum laude in 1973 and Tufts University, B.A. In 1969, he speaks Spanish and English.

Prof. Philippe Sands: 58-year-old London-based, educated at Harvard Law School and Corpus Christi College, he also teaches at University College London and other universities in the United States, Canada, France and Australia.

Prof. Alain Pellet: 72, is a French inventor, studied in Paris and now teaches at the Université de Paris Ouest – Nanterre La Défense, and he was a former consultant to the French government.

The above three lawyers who will represent Somalia in the maritime case are internationally recognized lawyers who had before won many cases in international courts and earned international awards.

From September 9 to 13, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague will hear submissions from Somalia and Kenya over their maritime territorial dispute.
