Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has met with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Washington. The two officials discussed the importance of combating terrorism, promoting good governance and responding to drought in Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh thanked the US for the support it has continued to offer Somalia, including the fight against terrorism and the provision of humanitarian aid. He reaffirmed his government’s strategic partnership with the USA.
A statement by the US Secretary of State said the Somali President also held talks with the Under-Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland, where they discussed shared stabilization, good governance, and humanitarian goals for the Somali nation.
The statement added that the United States is committed to “helping the people of Somalia to counter terrorism, prevent famine, advance democracy, and save lives.”
