Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) and Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) have signed a bilateral cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing immigration services and strengthening border security systems.
The agreement was signed by ICA Director General Mustafa Duhulow, who is currently on an official visit to Switzerland. The signing ceremony followed a series of high-level meetings with Swiss officials from the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs, along with technical experts in immigration and border management.
Key areas of the agreement include modernizing Somalia’s immigration infrastructure, building the technical capacity of ICA personnel, and improving the security, integrity, and global recognition of the Somali passport.
“This is a results-oriented partnership that will significantly enhance the quality and credibility of Somalia’s immigration services,” said Duhulow during the signing ceremony.
As part of the visit, the Somali delegation toured Swiss land borders and international airports to observe the use of advanced technologies in border control.
Officials from both countries noted that the collaboration will contribute to Somalia’s broader national security objectives, streamline immigration procedures, and boost international confidence in Somali travel documents.
