The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland Pekka Haavisto, in Villa Somalia, Mogadishu.
The President and the Minister discussed in the meeting, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, bilateral relations between Finland and Somalia, political and peace processes in Somalia and the Horn of Africa, and environmental and climate matters.
The foreign minister, Pekka Haavisto agreed to start political consultations between Finland and Somalia, stating that Finland will support Somalia in its efforts to promote democracy and stability and to eradicate poverty. Foreign Minister Haavisto communicated to the Somalia president the importance of Somalia supporting the international community in its efforts to end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
President Hassan Sheikh showed gratitude to Finland for its support to the country to promote stability and peace, stating that Somalia will strengthen the bilateral relations and cooperation in between Somalia and finland.
