The UK ambassador to Somalia Kate Foster has urged Somalia’s President and Prime minister to take immediate steps to de-escalate tensions in Mogadishu and said that violence is unacceptable.
She stated that Dialogue is critical to tackling problems, addressing observed shortcomings and expediting Somalia’s electoral process. The United Kingdom (UK) also backed the National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting which was scheduled to kickoff in Mogadishu and called by the Prime minister.
Somalia has been conducting dragged elections for the Lower House, one of the chambers of the bicameral federal parliament, and which is also known as the House of the people since November.
The top two leaders also exchanged statements accusing each other of failure which fueled the tension for the past two days. There are growing international calls to de-escalate the situation and to focus on solutions.
