The Global Expertise Network (GEN), a worldwide, diaspora-led network of professionals and experts spanning Africa, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and beyond, warmly welcomes the historic decision by the State of Israel to formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign nation.
This milestone marks a defining moment in Somaliland’s journey and reflects its enduring commitment to peace, democratic governance, and regional stability over more than three decades. The recognition represents a powerful affirmation of Somaliland’s readiness to engage as a responsible and constructive partner on the global stage.
Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced that Israel will immediately expand cooperation with Somaliland in key sectors including agriculture, health, and technology, areas that are essential to sustainable development, innovation, and human well-being.
Somaliland’s President, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, described the development as a “historic moment,” capturing the significance of this recognition for the people of Somaliland, who have built strong institutions, maintained peace, and upheld democratic processes since 1991.
The two countries have agreed to establish full diplomatic relations, including the exchange of ambassadors and the opening of embassies, as confirmed by Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar. This step lays the foundation for long-term collaboration, knowledge exchange, and mutual prosperity.
GEN also welcomes Somaliland’s intention to join the Abraham Accords, reflecting its commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and peace across regions. This initiative aligns with Somaliland’s outward-looking foreign policy and its aspiration to contribute positively to stability and economic integration across the Middle East and Africa.
Recognition by Israel has the potential to inspire broader international engagement, opening new pathways for trade, investment, innovation, and people-to-people partnerships. For Somaliland, this moment strengthens its global visibility and creates new opportunities to deepen cooperation with nations and institutions around the world.
On behalf of its members worldwide, the Global Expertise Network congratulates the people and leadership of Somaliland on this historic achievement and looks forward to supporting initiatives that advance inclusive development, peace, and global collaboration.
Somaliland’s journey demonstrates that peace, resilience, and democratic governance matter and that they are worthy of international recognition.
