President Abdirahman Irro Returns from UAE Visit, Set to Embark on Historic Trip to Ethiopia

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), has returned to the country following a productive working and personal visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and is now preparing for a historic state visit to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

During his stay in the UAE, President Irro participated in several high-level international engagements, including the Africa Debate Conference held in Dubai, which brought together regional and global leaders to discuss Africa’s evolving political and economic landscape.

While in Dubai, the President also held constructive meetings with Somaliland business leaders and members of the diaspora community, focusing on strengthening trade partnerships, attracting investment, and enhancing diaspora participation in Somaliland’s national development agenda.

Throughout the visit, President Irro pursued efforts to expand Somaliland’s diplomatic and economic relations with various nations, holding discussions with senior government officials and international stakeholders to reaffirm Somaliland’s commitment to peace, cooperation, and shared progress.

According to the Presidential Spokesperson, Hussein Aden Igeh (Hussein Deyr), President Irro will soon embark on a state visit to Ethiopia following an official invitation from the Ethiopian government. Hussein Deyr described the upcoming visit as “a cornerstone in Somaliland’s new era of regional diplomacy and cooperation.”

This will be President Irro’s first visit to Ethiopia since assuming office on November 13, 2024, signaling Somaliland’s renewed commitment to strengthening relations with its strategic neighbor.

Somaliland and Ethiopia enjoy a long-standing partnership rooted in mutual respect, security collaboration, and expanding trade relations. The forthcoming visit is expected to bring new momentum to joint initiatives that enhance economic connectivity, border stability, and regional growth across the Horn of Africa.
