President Cyril Ramaphosa Pays Tribute to Late Namibian Leader Hage Geingob

President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed heartfelt condolences and paid tribute to the late Namibian leader, Hage Geingob, who passed away in a hospital. Describing Geingob as a towering figure in Namibia’s liberation struggle, Ramaphosa recalled his recent working visit to Windhoek in October, where he was hosted by the late leader.

During that visit, both leaders committed to strengthening the ties between South Africa and Namibia. Ramaphosa expressed deep sadness over Geingob’s passing, describing it as a blow not only to the people of Namibia but also to the entire continent of Africa.
Geingob’s hospitalization for cancer treatment was earlier announced by the Namibian government, and sadly, on Sunday, they confirmed his passing, noting that doctors had made every effort to save his life.
President Ramaphosa shared his grief, emphasizing that Geingob’s death is a loss for both the nation and the continent. Reflecting on their recent meeting, he expressed gratitude for the privilege of being hosted by Geingob, Madame Geingos, and the Cabinet during his working visit to Namibia.
The President highlighted their commitment to forging even closer partnerships between the two countries, driven by Geingob’s passionate conviction about a shared future and greater opportunities and prosperity for citizens on both sides of the Orange River.
Geingob’s significant role in Namibia’s liberation from colonialism and apartheid was acknowledged by Ramaphosa, noting his influential contribution to the solidarity between Namibia and South Africa during their respective struggles for freedom.
The Namibian government is set to meet to make arrangements for the funeral, marking a somber moment for the nation and the African continent.
