President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Returns to Dhuusamareeb to Bolster Ongoing Counter-al-Shabab Operations

Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has reappeared in Dhusamareeb, the administrative capital of Galmudug state, with the objective of escalating efforts in the existing military campaign against al-Shabab in the central regions of Somalia.

Upon arrival at the airport, President Hassan Sheikh and his delegation were warmly received by Galmudug State President Ahmed Abdi Kariye, lawmakers, and government council members.

President Hassan Sheikh has dedicated several months to actively supporting and motivating the troops engaged in the military offensive. Throughout this period, the armed forces reportedly successfully liberated numerous significant towns and villages in the Galmudug and Hirshabelle regions.

In August 2022, the President initiated a comprehensive anti-al-Shabab initiative, characterized as a “total war.” The initial phase witnessed Somalia forces, in collaboration with local militia, gaining control over al-Shabab-administered areas in the central regions of Hiiran and Middle Shabelle.
