President Irro Hosts Swiss Ambassador to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation

His Excellency Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), President of the Republic of Somaliland, on Wednesday welcomed Ambassador Mirko Giulietti of Switzerland to the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa, as part of the envoy’s official visit to the Republic of Somaliland.

Ambassador Giulietti, who is accredited to both Somaliland and Somalia, was accompanied by a senior diplomatic delegation for the high-level discussions aimed at bolstering ties between the two countries.

Talks between the two sides focused on enhancing bilateral relations, promoting peace and security in the Horn of Africa, and supporting sustainable development. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation based on mutual respect and understanding.

President Irro expressed gratitude to the Swiss government for its constructive diplomatic engagement and continued support. He briefed the visiting delegation on Somaliland’s peacebuilding and stabilization efforts, particularly in the eastern regions, emphasizing the Republic’s sovereign-led disarmament and conflict resolution initiatives.

Reiterating Somaliland’s commitment to democratic governance, rule of law, and institutional transparency, the president emphasized efforts to maintain internal security, ensure free and fair elections, and promote inclusive political participation.

Ambassador Giulietti lauded Somaliland’s achievements in peace, governance, and democratic development, despite operating in a complex regional context. He pledged Switzerland’s continued support for Somaliland’s state-building and development agenda, highlighting the importance of sustained diplomatic dialogue and regional collaboration.

The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to strengthen bilateral ties and expand areas of cooperation, reinforcing a shared vision for peace, stability, and prosperity across the Horn of Africa.
