His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction and modernization of the historic Alamsey Football Stadium in Burao.
The redevelopment project will expand the facility and equip it with modern infrastructure aimed at advancing sports, nurturing young talent, and strengthening youth development across Somaliland.
In his address, President Irro highlighted the symbolic and practical importance of Alamsey Stadium as a cornerstone for the youth and people of Burao. He stressed that the project will not only promote sports but also contribute to public health and social cohesion. The President reaffirmed that upgrading sports infrastructure is a key pillar of his government’s broader youth empowerment strategy.
On the same day, President Irro officially inaugurated a newly completed 19-kilometer road network constructed by the Burao Municipality. The new roads are expected to improve mobility, ease transportation challenges, and support the city’s growing urban and economic development.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Mayor of Burao, Mohamed Hirsi Ahmed, underscored the municipality’s commitment to modernizing the city’s infrastructure and enhancing public services.
The President commended the municipality’s leadership and staff for their efforts and urged them to continue working diligently to deliver projects that improve the quality of life for citizens and drive sustainable urban development.
