President Irro Lays Foundation Stone for Landmark Multi-Specialty Hospital in Burao

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), today presided over the foundation-laying ceremony of a historic national healthcare project — the construction of a state-of-the-art multi-specialty hospital in the city of Burao.

The hospital, generously funded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, will be the largest and most advanced medical facility in Somaliland and across the Horn of Africa. In recognition of this generous support, the facility will bear his name.

Purpose-built to meet the highest international standards, the hospital will provide a wide range of specialized medical services, greatly improving access to modern healthcare for Somaliland citizens. This milestone will significantly reduce the need for patients to seek treatment abroad, while strengthening the national healthcare system.

In his address, President Abdirahman Irro reaffirmed that the project represents a bold demonstration of his administration’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling its pledges, prioritizing the well-being of the people, and investing in essential services that advance national progress.

“This hospital is not only a healthcare facility — it is a symbol of hope, resilience, and a brighter future for our people. It will bring world-class medical services to Somaliland and particularly to the communities of Burao and the eastern regions,” the President declared.

The Head of State further commended the people of Burao for their unity, resilience, and contribution to national development, emphasizing that their partnership remains vital to Somaliland’s continued advancement.

The foundation-laying ceremony formed part of President Irro’s official working visit to Togdheer Region, underscoring his proactive leadership and dedication to delivering transformative projects across the country.
