The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail (Cirro), today paid a working visit to the Headquarters of the National Army of the Republic of Somaliland.
The purpose of the visit was for the President to assess the operations and overall functioning of the National Army.
While at the headquarters, the President held a meeting with the Commander of the National Army, Major General Nimecan Yusuf Osman (Gaaxnuug), and other senior officers. He received a full briefing on the general situation of the National Army, their needs, and the plans for their development. The President stated that such meetings with the army will continue on a regular basis.
The President praised the National Army for their heavy responsibilities in serving the country and for their constant readiness to defend the nation and its people. He emphasized that the Somaliland National Army is the main pillar of the nation’s sovereignty and statehood. He confirmed that training and modern equipment for the National Army will continue to be strengthened in order to uphold public confidence and fulfill the army’s constitutional mandate.
Additionally, the President announced that the construction of housing for the National Army will begin soon—an election campaign promise he had made. He also confirmed that officers who have reached the required service period will soon be promoted.
Finally, the President awarded certificates to army officers who had completed various trainings abroad.
This visit clearly demonstrates the priority the President of the Republic of Somaliland gives to building a modern, capable national army, one that is fully able to guarantee the security and defense of the Republic of Somaliland.
