Protest Erupts in Burao over Alleged Rape Case

The Burao city of Togdheer Region today witnessed a strong protest over a young mother called Ugbad Ali Abdilahi alleged to have been raped and killed.

The deputy governor of Togdheer who spoke to CBA TV by telephone said that they are investigating the case and have arrested the killer.

The protest was staged by women in the city and they were demanding justice for the victim. The Togdheer police forces who dispersed the protesters assured the angry crowd that Ugbad would get justice.

Although neither the hospital nor Togdheer regional administration has confirmed the rape case, the deputy governor denied that the case would be resolved through the tribal system.

Ubad Ali Abdilahi was a young single mother of 3 kids and unconfirmed reports also said that there was a love relation between the killer and Ugbad.

The body of the deceased Ugbad is still at the government hospital in Burao while the accused is in police custody.

Regional security agencies are investigating both the incident and the cause.
