A senior Al-Shabaab leader, Abdirahman Hiiti Ibrahim, known as Abu Abdirahman, surrendered to Somalia’s Gorgor commandos based in the Harardhere district of the Mudug region.
Government officials revealed that the defector held a leadership role within the group, overseeing Nurdugle and Gulane areas in the Middle Shabelle region for the past seven years.
The surrender of the senior Al-Shabab leader coincides with a recent increase in the number of al-Shabab members surrendering to the government forces of Somalia as the second phase of offensives against Alshabab intensifies in some regions of the country.
On several occasions, The Federal government called on Al Shabaab members to accept the peace and defect to the government side which the government pledged they will pardon them if they comply with the directives.
