The Somalia National Armed Forces have claimed killing at least 11 al-Shabaab fighters in Southern Somalia, though the group has not commented on this. Somalia armed forces and al-Shabab have been fighting each other for a decade now.
At least eleven al-Shabab fighters, including a senior commander, have been confirmed killed in an operation conducted by the Somali National Army in Lower Shabelle region in southern Somalia.
The Somalia military officials noted that the troops killed the senior commander alongside his ten bodyguards. The senior al-Shabaab commander was identified as Muad Dhere and was in charge of Jubba regions.
The Somalia forces insisted that they will continue military operations against al-Shabaab which they have been fighting for the last decade. But al-Shabaab remains a major challenge to Somalia’s federal government and still capable of carrying out its military attacks.
