Somalia, Saudi Arabia discuss on counterterrorism efforts against Alshabab

In a diplomatic meeting, the Minister of Internal Security of Somalia, Mohamed Ahmed Sheikh commonly known as Doodishe, engaged in substantive discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Abdiaziz Bin Saud Bin Naif, in Riyadh.

The primary focus of these deliberations centered on fortifying the cooperative efforts of both nations in the realm of counterterrorism, with the paramount objective of ensuring security and stability within Somalia. Over recent months, the Horn of Africa state, has been grappling with an ongoing confrontation against the Al-Shabaab.

During the meeting, the Saudi Minister of Internal Affairs reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s steadfast commitment to supporting Somalia in its endeavors to eradicate the presence of Al-Shabaab throughout the nation. Notably, the precise nature of Saudi Arabia’s support, whether financial or military, was not explicitly detailed for the public.

However, the Federal Government of Somalia has been actively engaged in robust military operations against Al-Shabaab since the previous year, following President Hassan Sheikh’s declaration of a comprehensive campaign against the group.
