The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airport Development (JSL) has announced that it is addressing growing concerns over difficulties faced by travelers holding Western passports — including those from the United States, Canada, and Europe — when visiting Somaliland.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Ministry confirmed that it has been in contact with relevant international authorities to ease the burden on affected passengers. However, it emphasized that aviation and airport services are governed by strict international procedures that should not be politicized or influenced by external rhetoric.
“Aviation and Airport Services are technical matters with international laws and procedures that are governed by specific systems. They do not require politicization or external advice,” the statement read.
The Ministry reassured Somaliland citizens that it continues to fulfill its constitutional duties to safeguard the nation’s airspace and aviation operations. It further stated that all aircraft operating at Somaliland airports or flying through its airspace must fully comply with JSL’s Aviation and Immigration Regulations.
The statement also carried a stern warning: any airline or operator that fails to adhere to Somaliland’s aviation rules will lose authorization to access the country’s airports and airspace.
The announcement was signed by Fuaad Ahmed Nuux, the Minister of Civil Aviation and Airport Development.
