The Government of Somaliland has expressed its deep concern regarding the recent accession of Somalia to the East African Community (EAC) block. In a press release, Somaliland noted that it firmly believes that this decision is a clear violation of Somaliland’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Somalia’s accession to the EAC without Somaliland’s consent is a grave injustice and undermines the principles of international law as reported by the Somaliland’s foreign affairs ministry.
The statement reads, that Somaliland seeks a just and equitable solution that recognizes their right to self-determination and their aspiration for international recognition.
According to the Press release, Somaliland sincerely hopes that the AU, UN, and EAC member states uphold the aspirations of their people and their inherent right to self-determination.
