The Somaliland National Electoral Commission has officially announced the eagerly anticipated election timeline, a subject that has been a point of contention among political stakeholders since the previous year.
After conducting a series of consecutive consultative meetings involving political parties, political associations, civil societies, and traditional elders, the National Electoral Commission has made its decision.
The Political Parties and Associations election will be held on the 28th of December, 2023, followed by the Presidential election on the 13th of November, 2024.
However, the two SLNEC members within the electoral commission have immediately expressed their disapproval of the decision, characterizing it as an externally influenced move. Nevertheless, they have not provided further details or clarifications regarding their objections.
