The warring sides of a prolonged intercommunal strive in Eel Afweyn district of Sanaag region signed a peace accord yesterday. This will put an end to four-year inter-clan clashes in the district that claimed dozens of lives.
Today, the minister of national planning congratulated the district on the hard-won peace and urged the community to safeguard it. The minister also called upon the diaspora community to stop jeopardizing the peace efforts. He urged them to let the people of the region solve their problems since they are the ones who suffer the scourge of conflict.
The minister pledged that the government will not spare any effort to help secure the hard-won peace and helping people rebuild their lives after conflict.
A.rahman Adan Weyd the head of the peacebuilding committee also struck a similar note. He urged the diaspora community to contribute to the development of the district and to spend in rebuilding what they used to expend in conflict.
Mr. A.rahman Weyd said the people of
the district now need development to appreciate peace. He called upon the
government to invest in delivering services such as education, health, and
water.
