Somaliland’s ministry of information has on Saturday morning issued new orders to its employees urging them to refrain from discussing and analysing issues concerning political candidates of neighbouring countries.
The ministry of information did not officially name a specific country in the statement but its speculated to be Somalia where there has been a political dispute in recent days over the electoral process.
The ministry also clearly reminds its employees not to get involved in domestic politics and not show political parties emblems citing the civil service law of Somaliland. The ministry has not shed light on why they have issued this statement at this time.
Most neighbouring countries will hold elections this year including Somalia, Djibouti and Ethiopia. Somaliland itself is expected to hold its parliamentary and local council election on 31 May of this year.
