For the first time in 20 years, an Ethiopian Ship named “Gibe” has docked at the Port of Berbera in Somaliland. Another ship named Shebele is also expected to arrive at the port next week.
Gibe is owned by the Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise and has transported over 11,000 tons of Sugar and Rice through the Gulf-India Sub-Continent.
The ship was welcomed by diplomants led by the Ethiopian Consul General in Somaliland, Seid Mohammed and Enterprise’s manager Roba Megerssa. Dubai Ports Authority officials were also in attendance.
The operation of Berbera Port will help in facilitating Ethiopia’s import-export freight. The first phase expansion of the Berbera container terminal can accommodate heavy ships with modern infrastructure.
