The Mayor of Hargeisa Abdikarim Ahmed Mogeh has expelled a number of his staff after they were allegedly involved in corrupt activities such as taking bribes from the public, which the Mayor had previously warned his staff against.
Mogeh who made the announcement together with his deputy and the secretary general of the Hargeisa municipality did not give the number of staff he suspended from their duties but he described as the highest number of staff the local council had to expel over corruption since its inception.
He said the authorities are aware about the presence of corrupt staff that ask people for bribes and they ar now in police custody. He promised to keep a close eye on everyone who is alleged of fraud until they prove their innocence.
Meanwhile, Abdikarim Ahmed Mogeh told locals to report if they come across anyone asking for a bribe to help them get their services as his office is open for the public on every Wednesday to listen to their complaints.
