President of the Republic of Somaliland Attends the Inauguration of the Kalqoray Dam

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), today attended the official inauguration ceremony of the Kalqoray Dam, located north of Hargeisa.

This dam, the largest ever constructed in Somaliland, has a capacity of 1.8 million cubic meters of water, equivalent to 9 million barrels. The project was fully financed and implemented by the Hargeisa Water Agency.

In addition, the President laid the foundation stone for the Water Wells Drilling and Interconnection Project, as well as launched the Hargeisa Water Infrastructure Development Project, which will significantly help meet the growing water needs of the city.

The inauguration of the Kalqoray Dam was a historic event, marking a major achievement by the Somaliland government in expanding essential services, particularly in securing water supplies for the capital city of Hargeisa and its surrounding areas.

In his keynote speech, the President emphasized that the Kalqoray Dam will be an important source to address the water demands of Hargeisa’s residents.

Furthermore, the President noted that the drilling and interconnection of wells, along with the water infrastructure project in Hargeisa, form part of the government’s strategic plans to address the city’s rapid growth and increasing water demand. These initiatives will play a key role in expanding access to clean and sustainable water.

At the event, speeches were also delivered by the Director of the Hargeisa Water Agency, the Chairman of the Waddani Party, and several ministers who accompanied the President.

In conclusion, President Abdirahman Irro underlined the priority that the Somaliland government gives to water expansion and environmental protection, calling on the public to safeguard these important projects and benefit from them collectively.
