Somali-Kenyan member of the National Assembly, Sophia Abdi Noor, has lauded the development and the infrastructure of Somaliland especially the Berbera port and livestock exporting mechanisms. Sophia was encouraging Kenya to export abundant Kenyan livestock.
Speaking at the National Assembly on Wednesday, Sophia Abdi Noor, from Ijaara constituency, mentioned her latest trip to Somaliland especially Berbera Port. She told the Kenyan MPs that the Republic of Somaliland has achieved to develop an advanced infrastructure to enable exporting millions of livestock to the Middle-East countries.
For many years, she said, Somaliland was not getting foreign aid and it was only using the money it was getting from the export of livestock.
Ms. Sophia Abi Noor bemoaned that Kenya which has so much livestock lacks such infrastructure and marketing schemes. Saying that Kenya can make more hard currency than what Somaliland is making.
She reminded the Kenyan Parliament that even though there are no proper structures and coordination, the livestock sector is already contributing around 12 percent to Kenyan GDP.
