Somalia breaks the silence on Somaliland Thursday’s protests


President Hassan Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia has expressed concern over Thursday’s protests by the opposition in Somaliland. He called on Somaliland’s political stakeholders to solve their political differences peacefully.

He noted that Somaliland has a historical tradition of resolving its internal affairs without seeking help from foreign intervention. He Urged them to maintain that positive political establishment which led the other Somalis to admire it.

Hassan Sheikh believes that if insecurity happens in Somaliland it would not only affect the People of Somaliland but also the rest of the Somalis, Underlining that Somaliland is the safest place for Somalis to live.

On Thursday, Somaliland opposition parties launched protests in major towns which eventually resulted in a clash between the police and demonstrators. President Bihi said five people were killed and about 100 including police officers wounded in the clash.

However, opposition parties vowed the protests will continue until the presidential election is held on 13 November 2022 and blamed the government for the loss of lives on Thursday.
