The outgoing Minister of investment and industrial development for Somaliland, Amina Elmi Fareed has become the only female lawmaker in Somaliland Parliament after she was sworn in today by the supreme court.
She became the eligible candidate to fill the seat vacated by MP Nuur Osman Guled after his death as the country’s constitution indicates such seats to be filled by the top candidates on the party’s waiting list.
In her campaign time, she repeatedly emphasized prioritizing women’s participation in politics to play a significant role in the country’s decision making.
