Somaliland has on Thursday marked the first day of Eid al fitr. Hundreds of people gathered at the Hargeisa stadium as well as in main mosques across the country to perform their Eid prayers.

At the Hargeisa Stadium, Sheikh Mohamed Omar Dirir, one of the well known sheikhs in the country elaborated the importance of this day for the muslim community. He also advised people to forgive each other and solve their social problems .
Muslims have two Eids a year. The Eid is an occasion of pleasure and happiness, and each of the two Eids has a religious significance. The first, Eid al-Fitr, occurs when Muslims have finished fasting the month of Ramadan, while the second, Eid al-Adha, signals the end of the first 10 days of the lunar month, Dhul-Hijjah.
