Somaliland: Former Somaliland minister of religious affairs Sheikh Suufi dies in Hargeisa

The former minister of religious affairs for Somaliland, Sheikh Mohamud Suufi Muhummed who was among the renowned Somali Sheikhs has passed away in Hargeisa. He spent most of his life preaching and lecturing on islamic teachings.

The President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi has sent a condolence message to the nation and his family following the death of the former religious affairs minister and described him as one of the greatest scholars Somaliland has had.

Bihi said Sheikh Sufi played a significant role during the state building process and reconciliations as he eventually served as the minister of religious affairs during Rayale’s tenure. His knowledge of Tafsiir was highly commended by many.

The notorious Somali scholars; Sheikh Mohamed Moalim Hassan, Sheikh Mohamed Omar Dirir, Sheikh Abdiqadir Sheikh Ibrahim Sheikh Abdimasamad were among his notable students.
