A delegation led by Senator Olivier Cadic from France visited the Speaker of the House of Elders of Somaliland, Suleiman Mohamud Adam, at his office, where constructive discussions took place among key officials.
Senator Olivier emphasized the need to enlighten his country about the independent status of Somaliland, highlighting the presence of essential statehood elements such as armed forces and the conduct of free elections.
Senator Olivier expressed his belief that the international community should recognize Somaliland as an independent country and endorse the formal separation between Somaliland and Somalia. He further committed to providing comprehensive information on the current recognition status of Somaliland to his government.
In 1960, Somaliland gained independence from Britain and subsequently united with Italian Somaliland to establish the Somali Republic. However, this union was short-lived, as Somaliland withdrew from the union in 1991.
