Somaliland Hosts First National Conference on Disability

The Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, and Family today convened the first-ever National Conference on Disability in Somaliland, marking a historic milestone in advancing the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities.

The event brought together a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including senior government officials, disability rights advocates, service providers, community leaders, and individuals with disabilities. The conference provided a vital platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and collective strategy development aimed at improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities across the country.

Key issues on the agenda included accessibility, inclusive education, employment opportunities, social protection, and the legal rights of people with disabilities. Participants emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts and stronger policy frameworks to ensure full participation and equal opportunities for all.

The conference is in line with President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro)’s broader agenda to build an inclusive society where no one is left behind.

This historic gathering represents a significant step forward in raising awareness, fostering collaboration, and shaping national policies that promote dignity, independence, and inclusion for Somaliland’s disability community.
