The speaker of Somaliland’s house of representatives Abdirizak Khalif has announced that the dispute of the MPs over the controversial amended election law has been internally solved.
The speaker noted the MPs agreed to solve their disagreement following days-long talks between him and the MPs. The house did not have session for the last days due to a section of the parliament protested against the amended election law in which they said the voting did not follow the legal procedure.
The amended election law also incited conflict between the upper house and the house of representatives after the upper house’s speaker sent it back to the house of representatives without the members debating.
The law favoring the combination of the presidential and political association elections that has been the center of conflict between the government and the opposition.
Few days prior, the house of elders extended President Bihi for two years term, a decision denounced by the two opposition parties.
