Somaliland Lawyer regrets disabled people to not have an important positions in government institutions

Lawyer Abdilahi Mahamed Haquuq in an interview talked about the situation of the people with special needs in Somaliland and recounted promises made by president Muse Bihi for the community during the 2017 election campaign that were not fulfilled during the mandate of the president.

Lawyer Abdillahi Haquuq stated that it’s unfortunate that the people with disabilities have not yet been appointed to any important positions by the government, yet people were supposed to have equal rights to govern the country.

He reported that the disabled community has no representatives in the important government institutions that include the house of representatives.

Meanwhile, The lawyer also said that president Muse Bihi made several promises to the community during his campaign election but said that it is worth noting that the president has yet to appoint or employ a disabled person and was not enacted law
giving privileges to the disabled community during his mandate.

As Somaliland people expected to go to the polling stations next year, Abdilahi Mahamed Haquuq called upon the National Election Committee to give special attention to the disabled and prepare for them sites they could enter and exit during the voting process or the voter registration exercise.
