Somaliland Member of Parliament and the speaker of the waddani party Barkhad Jama Batuun in a press conference spoke about the present situation of the police and the homeless people in the country as Somaliland enters the cold season.
Somaliland lawmaker, Barkhad Jama Batuun stated that the police face poor conditions and they do not get enough care from the government as it gets colder in Somaliland, an accusation the government has yet to respond to. He said the police are only equipped with guns without all the other necessities and urged the government to provide them with jackets to survive the cold.
Barkhad Batuun also disclosed that the police officers only take $100 for payment without any other insurance while 65% of the national budget was allocated for security. The MP asked his fellow lawmakers to increase the police budget this year.
The MP also asked the public and the business community to help the homeless people and start donations to support them. He particularly called up the National Displacement and Refugee Agency to take the lead.
