Hargeisa, August 18, 2025 – The Foreign Affairs, Investment and National Planning Committee of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Somaliland has strongly condemned the recent actions of the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu.
The condemnation comes after reports confirmed that Turkish diplomats met with Sultan Wabar, a controversial figure known for engaging in activities hostile to Somaliland’s sovereignty and stability. According to Somaliland officials, this meeting represents a direct attempt to interfere in Somaliland’s internal affairs and aligns Turkey with destabilization campaigns driven from Mogadishu.
In an official statement, the parliamentary committee stressed that such actions constitute “a violation of diplomatic norms and an affront to Somaliland’s sovereignty.” It further warned that Turkey’s involvement with anti-Somaliland actors risks undermining peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
The Committee called on the Republic of Türkiye to respect Somaliland’s sovereignty and ensure that any engagement with Somaliland citizens or institutions is conducted only through official and legitimate channels.
“Somaliland remains committed to peace, stability, and constructive international cooperation, but will firmly defend its sovereignty against external interference,” the statement read.
Analysts say the development highlights growing tensions between Somaliland and external actors who seek to exploit regional dynamics. For Somaliland, the message is clear: it will not tolerate actions that compromise its peace, unity, or pursuit of international recognition.
