Somaliland government has warned its citizens not to be part of the celebratory after Somalia defeated South Sudan to emerge champions of the East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) title.
The Minister of information, communication and technology for Somaliland, Abdulweli Soufi, regrets that some of the Somaliland citizens are sharing their happiness on social media over Somalia’s football victory.
The minister revealed that Somaliland has the most Somali social media users and called on the youth to take advantage of using their social media platforms to defend Somaliland’s statehood and refrain from the celebrations with Somalia.
On Saturday, Somalia’s national football Under-17 team won the East and Central Africa championship, and the country’s first-ever soccer trophy in any tournament, at any level.
