Hargeisa, May 16:- Seven members of Ugandan parliament for foreign affairs committee have arrived today in Hargeisa for an official visit.
The committee held talks with the Somaliland House of Elders and House of Representatives.
They are also expected to attend the 18th May commemoration on this Saturday.
The delegation come to Hargeisa after Somaliland ministry of foreign affairs invited them to witness the 18th May celebration. After their meeting with both houses of parliament, they are expected to have a meeting with the President of the Republic of Somaliland.
Ahmed Abdi Nour (a.k.a Kijaandhe), MP and member of Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, briefed the media after the meeting. He said that the delegation has not only come to Somaliland for attending the 18th May but they also came here as a fact-checking mission on Somaliland developments and democracy that later they will present to their government of Uganda.
On the other hand, the Uganda delegation said that they have come to Hargeisa to understand the opportunities that exist in Somaliland, particularly in the areas of bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
According to Somaliland officials, many other regional delegates including Kenya and Tanzania are expected to arrive soon in Hargeisa to attend the 18th May celebrations which is on Saturday.
18th May in 1991 was the day that Somaliland declared its separation from union with Somalia after they united in 1960 to make the failed dream of Great Somalia.
