Taiwan and Somaliland Launch New Maritime Security Cooperation

The Government of Taiwan has dispatched a delegation from its Navy, specifically from the Ocean Affairs division, to Somaliland as part of efforts to begin implementing a new maritime security partnership between the two sides.

The delegation arrived today in the capital, Hargeisa, where they were warmly received by the Commander of the Somaliland Coast Guard, Admiral Ahmed Hure Haariye, along with senior officers of the force. The reception reflects the growing importance both sides place on safeguarding regional waters and protecting maritime resources.

During their visit, the Taiwanese delegation and Somaliland Coast Guard officials discussed strengthening cooperation in maritime security, expanding professional training programs, and enhancing the protection of Somaliland’s strategic coastline.

Later in the evening, Admiral Haariye, accompanied by First Deputy Commander Col. Khadar Mohamed Aw Ciise, hosted a welcoming dinner in honor of the Taiwanese delegation. The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to review future plans aimed at boosting Somaliland’s maritime defense capabilities and deepening bilateral collaboration against maritime threats.

This visit marks a significant step in the expanding partnership between Somaliland and Taiwan and is expected to pave the way for long-term maritime security cooperation.
